Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met Libyan Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar in Cairo on Sunday to discuss developments in Libya, Sisi's spokesman said.

No other details about the meeting were immediately available.

Libyan National Army (LNA) forces led by Haftar have been conducting a military offensive to take control of the capital, Tripoli, since April 4.

The field marshal has vowed to clear the Libyan capital of "terrorist centres" as he did in the east and south of the country.

In its push towards Tripoli, the LNA is facing off with forces loyal to Tripoli-based government of Fayez Sarraj, composed mainly of an array of militias.
